Esta es la definición de Opinión que más me gustó de las que encontré, porque me parece que debe ser la más antigua:
"Del latín "opinio", (creencia, conjetura), se entiende por opinión, en general, un conocimiento probable, es decir, alejado por igual del conocimiento verdadero y de la ignorancia. Para Platón, la opinión, ("doxa"), es una facultad propia del alma que nos permite tener un cierto conocimiento del mundo sensible, de la experiencia, a diferencia de la ciencia, ("episteme"), que nos permite alcanzar el verdadero conocimiento, el conocimiento de las Ideas o esencias"

Aunque, de forma general, dicha definición es acertada, en el ejercicio periodístico se debe ser más riguroso. El Periodismo de Opinión
debe estar lo más alejado posible de la ignorancia, y por lo tanto lo más cerca posible del conocimiento verdadero. Por otro lado es muy certera la primera apreciación de Platón, no literalmente, pero sí en cuanto a que es una facultad que nos permite tener un cierto conocimiento del mundo sensible a partir de la experiencia, y diría yo que también del mundo real. En lo que difiero, es que no debe ser completamente separado del conocimiento verdadero, pues en sí el Periodismo de Opinión está fundamentado en lo real, no puede ser una mera apreciación sin bases sólidas.
La opinión no debe ser tomada como una simple apreciación aislada, sino como un punto de vista que puede ser tomado en serio por su solidez, por sus bases periodísticas, a pesar de ser algo tan subjetivo. Aunque muchas veces la opinión queda menospreciada y mal nombrada cuando es supuestamente utilizada por los chismosos de la farándula, opinadores sin fundamento, casi enmarcados dentro del populismo. Es pues nuestra labor rescatar todos los días el buen nombre de la opinión, como medio de ver otras realidades, otras apreciaciones fundamentadas, otra forma de periodismo.

El acierto de Platón consiste en reconocer que la opinión es un estado medio del conocimiento. No tiene carácter de ciencia y tampoco lo tiene de ignorancia. La opinión, asi sea la periodística, es personal, subjetiva. Y por ello no es ciencia. Y tiene validez en cuanto está de parte de la sensibilidad, de la experiencia.
